lifestyle | Introduction. They make cheese in the house. Her parents were often away because her mother used to sell cheese in Guipúzcoa and her father was a truckdriver. When she was small her grandmother looked after her. At school they always spoke in Spanish, but in the street they spoke Basque because the priest did not want to see the language getting lost, and that is why the level of Basque is quite good in Arbizu. When she was thirteen she came to Pamplona to study and she has lived there since then. She sells cheese in the municipal market. She is married but her husband does not speak Basque. They have two girls who go to a Basque-speaking school. They have a summer house in Ihabar, the village of her husband. In Ihabar the language got lost in a short period, but now the children learn the language in the school in Irurtzun. |
